He made $1,000,000 by selling 1,000,000 pixels of advertising on his website in less than five months. He sold every single pixel and spawned many imitators, like millionpennyhomepage.com, the pixelwars.com and milliondollargolfpage.com. This is an example of banner ads, as well as viral marketing, as there was a lot of word of mouth about it.
